GSM Arena’s Comprehensive Mobile Phone Screen Performance Testing

The guys over at GSMArena have done themselves proud in this comprehensive mobile phone screen testing, pitching several mobile devices together, and testing the stability, usability, and functionality of the various types of screen technologies used, all in the aim of research. Nokia Create A Touch Screen Out Of Water

A Nokia team here in Finland have managed to create a touch screen like no other. This touch screen is made out of water, yes, thats right, water!

Ok, frozen water that is, Ice. The Nokia team cut several blocks of ice, and then stacked them up, merged them together using heat-guns to join them seamlessly, creating a wall, then using infrared, and optics, along with some clever electronics, they successfully created the worlds very first touch screen made of just frozen water

The Nokia team involved said..

“This was a playful experiment, but one that we think showed interactive computing interfaces can now be built anywhere,” says Jyri Huopaniemi at Nokia’s research lab in Tampere, whose team built the touchscreen, dubbed Ubice, or ubiquitous ice.

Finland has a tradition of building snow and ice sculptures during its long winter. It was these that inspired the device, says Antti Virolainen, a member of the Nokia team. “We decided to see if we could make an ice sculpture that was interactive.”

Video – Nokia’s World Record Attempt in Sweden – The World Biggest Cinema Screen Powered by an N8

On the 25th of this month, Nokia set about setting up a New World Record attempt, in Rosengård, Sweden, Creating the world’s biggest cinema screen, and its no easy task, as it took a lot of planning, teams of people and specialised equipment to make sure it all comes together.

The 1,428 square metre (that’s 51 metres x 28 metres) cinema screen is so large that it had to be assembled, and watched, outside. The screen was hoisted up in front of a tower block, and held in place by two giant cranes while four XLM HD30 projectors, each weighing 140 kilos, projected the Prince of Persia movie onto it.
